What is ChatGPT Space?
ChatGPT Space is OpenAI's shared workspace for pages, files and team work inside ChatGPT. People and ChatGPT edit the same page, and teammates can tag ChatGPT or a dot, OpenAI's persistent cloud agent, to draft, research or revise it. OpenAI launched it at its DevDay event on 2026-09-29, replacing the Library feature on the Pro, Business and Enterprise plans.

OpenAI describes Space as a home for your pages, files and shared work with ChatGPT. The unit of work is a page: a document you and ChatGPT edit together, such as a plan, a research brief or a team handbook, with child pages for related work. Inside Space, a space (lowercase) groups pages around a topic or team. Pages hold text, headings, lists, tables, images, files, code and references, plus three agent blocks: a Prompt block that saves a request readers can run again, a Task block that hands work to Codex, and an Agent Instructions block that tells agents how to work on the page. People with edit access work on a page in real time, and each person uses their own ChatGPT.

What to check before choosing
- Which agents your team uses. Space pages are edited by ChatGPT, Codex and dots. If people on the team work in Claude Code, Cursor or another agent, their work cannot write to a Space page directly.
- Whether the work is a document or an app. A page is a document with interactive blocks. If the result needs a database, logins or a scheduled job at its own URL, you need Sites or a tool built for apps.
- How you would leave. Check what you can take out before the team depends on it. Saved files download; native pages with their comments and history have no documented export.
- Who needs a seat. Business has a two-seat minimum and charges per user. Price it on everyone who needs access.
- Where the data lives. Space runs on OpenAI's cloud under your ChatGPT workspace settings. Check that against your data rules, and remember that linked files keep their own permissions while copied summaries become visible on the page.

What it costs
Space comes with a ChatGPT plan rather than as a separate product. OpenAI lists it for Pro, Business and Enterprise at launch. Pro is sold at three levels, $100, $200 or $500 a month. Business is $25 per user per month billed monthly or $20 billed annually, with a two-seat minimum. Enterprise is priced by contact. Free, Go, Plus and Edu are not listed for Space. Dots have separate requirements, so a Business seat does not by itself give every member a dot.
